Alicia Esser

Alicia Esser
DVM, DABVP (Canine and Feline Practice), RDCS

Dr. Esser graduated from the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2000 after completing a Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences at New Mexico State University. She practiced small animal and exotic and wildlife medicine and surgery in Jacksonville, Florida for several years before moving to the Poconos to make her home.

She attained additional certification specializing in canine and feline practice from the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in 2015 (See www.abvp.com for more information). Dr. Esser has a lifelong quest for learning and continually strives to improve her veterinary skills to do all she can for her patients. Towards that end, she also has completed an Associate of Science degree in Echocardiography (ultrasound of the heart) at Lackawanna College. While this is a program for human ultrasound, the canine and feline heart is very similar, and she was seeking a more comprehensive training program than is available to veterinarians. Staying local for this training allowed her to continue practicing veterinary medicine while returning to school for a bit.

Dr. Esser has a strong background in emergency medicine and surgery, but equally enjoys long term management of complex conditions like diabetes mellitus. When not at work, she lives with Bob the dog and enjoys cooking, traveling, and all things outdoors.

She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, and the American Society of Echocardiography.
